The Water & Wastewater Treatment Department is responsible for providing safe, reliable drinking water and managing the community’s wastewater systems.

Our team operates and maintains the Water Treatment Plant, wastewater collection infrastructure, pumps, equipment, and distribution systems that support homes, businesses, and community facilities across Rainy River First Nations.

From daily operations and testing to maintenance, inspections, repairs, and emergency response, our focus is on protecting public health and ensuring these essential services remain reliable for our community.

Boil Water Advisory (BWA)

Due to the emergency water main repair that occurred in September 4 2026, Rainy River First Nations remains in a precautionary BWA. We will provide updates when the BWA is removed.

Water Treatment Plant Upgrade

As we are all aware, the current water treatment plant is aging and not able to meet the needs of the community. In the past couple of years, we have seen failures in the water distribution system that have caused massive disruptions in service.

We are well underway for a permanent solution through primarily the upgrade of the Water Treatment Plant, and secondary through the upgrade of existing infrastructure in the ground.  The WTP Upgrade was split into the following milestones, with the current stage being highlighted in red.
