The PW Department is responsible for operating the Housing Program of Rainy River First Nations. The Housing Program supports safe, healthy, and affordable housing for community members. The program works to maintain and improve existing homes, support renovations and repairs, and develop new housing opportunities to meet the changing needs of the community.
Our goal is simple: to help ensure every family has access to a safe, suitable, and well-maintained home.
The Housing Program works with community members, Chief and Council, funding partners, and contractors to address housing needs while planning for the long-term growth and sustainability of the community.
Housing Allocations
The RRFN Housing Program allocates houses based on the ratified point system as outlined in the Housing Policy available below. The Department maintains a housing waitlist – that is a fluid list that places members in home based on recognized need and not the chronological order they applied. Off-Reserve Home Reno Program & Certificate of Possession (CP) Home Reno Program
RRFN recognizes the importance for Members to reside in homes that are up to code and free of health and safety concerns. Leadership is committed to supporting Members and is focused on aiding not only members who reside within the community but those who reside off.
To support our Members who live off the community and those who own their own home in the community, RRFN Leadership has authorized the Off-Reserve Remedial Home Renovation Program and the CP Home Reno Program, which will provide assistance for members who own their homes to renovate. The program is for a maximum of $10,000 CAD, and is based on quotes for work not yet started.
