Multi Use Facility Project
The new Multi Use Facility project has officially kicked off. This is a multi-year project that is starting with community visioning. The new facility will include space for recreation, community gathering, programs and youth space, offices, and room to host events.
Project Goal: To create a safe and welcoming space that supports recreation, culture, learning, and connection for everyone in the community.
The project was initiated because the existing facility is nearing the end of its lifecycle, and there is demand for more flexible community space. The new facility will be able to host a wide range of activities and allow multiple programs and user groups in the space at the same time.
Community Engagement Happening September 15th & 16th 2026! Come out and share your vision for the facility!
Engagement sessions will be held on September 15th and 16th with opportunities for youth, Elders, and all community members to share perspectives. An online survey will also be available for members who are unable to attend in person. Event dates, times, locations, and survey links will be shared through the RRFN Facebook page, Manitou Rapids App, community newsletter, and other community communication channels.
There are prizes and food at every session. Come out and win!
The goal of engagement is to understand community needs and identify priorities for the new facility. Together, we will explore what makes a facility welcoming, accessible, safe, flexible, and sustainable for years to come. Your feedback will help establish a strong foundation for future planning and design as the project moves through the early stages of funding and design procurement.
All sessions are held in the Drum Room in the Administration Building.

Project Frequently Asked Questions
What will the new facility include? The project is currently in the planning stage, so design is still to come. Community input will help to shape the facility’s features, amenities, and spaces.
How will the project be funded? The project team will seek funding from federal and provincial grant programs. The team will identify what grants are available and then complete the pre-design work needed to apply, including cost estimates, community visioning,
Where is the new facility going? The new facility will go where the Rec Centre currently is now. The footprint will be similar, though may not be exactly the same.
When will construction start? The project is currently in the visioning and pre-design planning phase. Before construction can begin, the project team must complete community engagement, pre-design assessments, secure funding, and then move through design and construction tendering phases. This site will be updated as construction progresses, so keep an eye on this page.
Where will we play in the meantime? The project team is currently evacuating options for year-round play space to ensure that sports and access to recreation continue through the construction process. The team has chatted with other communities who have covered and re-purposed existing outdoor spaces (yes, we’re looking at you ice rink!) and installed court flooring. More work is needed before decisions can be made. Rest assured, this is a very high project priority.
Where will the youth centre go? As part of the pre-design planning work, the team is looking at options for temporary relocation of the youth centre. As the current space was developed, this was in mind and we will be able to move furniture, equipment, etc. over to the temporary facility. Just like play space, sound planning for the youth centre is a very important project priority and we will work with the community and youth as options are figured out.
